[Greek] κλείω (kleiō), [Latin] claudere, [Latin] cludere, [French] clore: to shut, to shut up, to close, to block, to lock, to have no pity; Mt.6:6, Mt.23:13, Mt.25:10, Lk.4:25, Lk.11:7, Jn.20:19,26, Acts 5:23, Acts 21:30, 1Jn.3:17

The Cardinals gather together in a conclave (lockable room) to select the next Pope.

Background information:

Old Testament: This term means to shut and to close. This term is related to the Greek noun kleis (key). This is what a key precisely does: to control access (close or shut). Therefore, the holder of the keys (kleis) has substantial authority.

Eliakim: (Isa.22:15,19-24):

1. Eliakim, the prime minister of King David, managed and controlled access to the palace.
2. Eliakim was responsible for executing the will (actions) of King David.
3. Eliakim held the keys (authority of the master of the palace).
4. Provisions were made for a successor in the event of the death of this gate keeper.
5. Eliakim becomes a precursor to Peter as a holder of the keys of authority.
6. Peter essentially becomes the prime minister for Jesus.
7. Christ later made provisions for a successor to Peter.

New Testament: This term means to close, to lock, and to close off (refuse).

Mt.6:6: “But when you pray, go to your inner room [which you have closed shut], and pray to your Father in secret.” (This secret prayer is in contrast to the hypocrites who seek to be seen praying in the synagogues. This secret prayer is in contrast to the pagans who babble in seeking a response from the gods.)

Mt.23:13: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You lock the kingdom of heaven before human beings. You do not enter yourselves, nor do you allow entrance to those trying to enter.”

1. This illustrates the scribes’ and Pharisees’ refusal and inability to exercise their authority and teaching power.
2. The scribes and Pharisees have the key (control and access to the knowledge of heaven).
3. The scribes and Pharisee reject Jesus by refusing to state the the right interpretation of the prophecies of the Messiah.
4. They teach human traditions and false doctrines of the Messiah.
5. They teach that Jesus was an imposter. They restrict the truth of Jesus.
6. They discourage the preaching of the gospel.

Mt.25:10: “While they went off to buy it [oil], the bridegroom came and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. Then the door was locked.” (The wedding feast [heaven] will not remain open for those who are not present or ready to enter it.)

1Jn.3:17: “If someone one has worldly means sees a brother in need and refuses him compassion, how can the love of God remain in him?” (For Christians, love towards others involves acts of charity for others, out of our material abundance.)

Mt.16:19: “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Jesus gives Peter authority to lead His Church. Peter is given authority in loosing (opening) and binding (closing heaven. Like Eliakim, Peter essentially becomes the prime minister for Jesus’ Church. When the time comes, a successor will follow Peter.)

[Greek] συγκλείω (sygkleiō): to shut up together, to hem in, to enclose

Rom.11:32: “For God delivered all to disobedience, that He might have mercy upon all.”

1. Before receiving the gospel [from Paul] the Gentiles were immersed in their sinful and idolatrous ways in the pagan world.
2. Since the Jews did not accept Jesus as the Messiah, Paul focuses his efforts on the salvation of the Gentiles.
3. Where sin increased and abounded, God’s grace overflowed all the more.
4. God’s providence allows those in disobedience to be more receptive to His mercy.

Gal.3:22: “But scripture confined all things under the power of sin, that through faith in Jesus Christ the promise might be given to those who believe.” (Paul states that the law serves to show what sin is and to declare that all are sinners. The promise of faith in Jesus Christ is given to those who believe in Him.)

Eliakim, the prime minister of King David, becomes the model for Peter and successive popes.

Mt.6:5: “Amen, I say to you….” This indicates that Jesus will make a very important and declarative statement: that these Pharisees have already received their reward.

The Modernists and Synodalists, arrogantly claiming that the ecclesiology of the Church has changed, are now locking access to Tradition (celebrating the Traditional Latin Mass) through the document Traditiones Custodes. They claim that now having both the NO Mass and TLM is “divisive”.

The Modernists and Synodalists are locking access to heaven through Synodality. SYNODALITY IS NOW BEING RAISED UP AS A IDOL, taking precedence over all else (Church teachings, doctrine, scripture, Truth, and sin). The Vatican is either pushing the doctrinal envelope or paying lip service to Church teachings. As a result, many are now  sinning or unaware that they are sinning. This will effect their eternal mortal souls.

The Modernists and Synodalists are continuing to develop and teach human traditions and innovations in the Church, changing the Church structure, suggesting women priests/deacons, and shared clergy/laity decision making authorities.

Synodality is creating a worldly Church made in the image of man and his lived experiences. This synodal Church becomes more and more unlike Jesus’ Church.

Mt.25:10 provides each of us with a somber reminder that we all must be ready and prepared to enter into heaven. We all will be held accountable for our actions and inactions. This is all the more applicable to all those who clergy (popes, cardinals, bishops, and priests) who choose to remain silent, cowardly, and indifferent in response important issues in the Church and society.

For many converts to Catholicism, the keys of authority can be a stumbling block for acceptance of Catholicism.

What is more plausible?

1. Jesus established only one Church and made provisions that successors would be appointed to lead His Church into the future.
2. Or Jesus is allowing over 45,000 Churches and denomination to exist, often stating varying beliefs and traditions.

Protestants of all types often continue to find themselves under the power of scripture being the sole source of authority for their faith and beliefs: Sola Scripture

Catholicism consists of three parts: Church magisterium, Tradition, and scripture. The Catholic Church’s authority determined the canon of scripture.

Through God’s providence at this time, God is allowing Protestants becoming more open to converting to Catholicism.
