[Greek] ἀκαταστασία (akatastasia), [Latin] seditio, [Latin] dissensio, [Latin] opus pravis: instability, confusion, disorder, disturbance, rebellion; Lk.21:9, 1Cor.14:33, 2Cor.6:5, 2Cor.12:20, Jas.3:16

Confusion and disorder occurs when is out of step with the God of peace

Background information:

Greek Hellenism: This term means unrest, turmoil, disorder, instability, anarchy, confusion, and unsteadiness.

Polybius’ Histories 14.9.6: “In Carthage, where the panic had been great enough, a still wilder state of excitement prevailed, and then the disappointment of the hopes of success.”

Polybius’ Histories7.4.8: “Though the Carthaginians now saw perfectly the whole extent of the young man’s fickleness and infatuation.”

Old Testament: This term means stumbling, deceit, ruin, and overthrow.

New Testament: This term means rebellion, insurrection, and disorder. Jesus says to not be terrified of wars and insurrection; for such things must happen first. Paul commends ourselves in ministry enduring hardships, afflictions, constraints, riots, and imprisonment. Paul fears that he may find rivalry, jealousy, fury, selfishness, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder among the Corinthians. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exists, there is disorder and foul practices. God is not a God of disorder, but of peace.

Scripture:

“In everything we commend ourselves as ministers of God, through much endurance, afflictions, hardships, constraints, beatings, imprisonment, riots, labors, and fasts.” 2Cor.6:4-5

Paul relates the potential opposition, difficulties and challenges which face those in ministry. Paul conveys that positive inner reality juxtaposed with negative outer impressions

“For I fear that when I come I find you not such as I wish, that there may be rivalry, jealousy, fury, selfishness, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder.” 2Cor.12:20

Paul fears that the Corinthians were being victimized, exploited, and seduced by false teachers. Paul alludes to the moral disorders among the Corinthians themselves.

“For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every foul practice.” Jas.3:16

Competing interests lead to confusion, lack of agreement, and division. This worldly “wisdom” comes from personal motives and desires.

Etymology: The Greek noun akatastasia means state of disorder. (A-) means negative, (kata-) means down, (-stasis) means a standing. The Latin noun seditio means civil disorder, dissension, and strife. The related Latin verb dissentere means to disagree and differ in sentiments. The Latin opus pravis means wrong work. The Latin adjective pravus means wrong, bad, and crooked. The related Latin verb depravare meand to pervert, seduce, and corrupt. The prefix (de-) means completely.

Conclusion

Depravity, depraved, dissension, dissenter, pravity, depravity, depraved

In the Old Testment, the lying tongue is one’s own enemy and the flattering mouth works ruin (Prov.26:28). For in arrogance there is ruin and disorder (Tob.4:13)

In this post-Christian secular world, there continues to remain moral disorders in our society.

Integrity in the ministry: Paul states that the teaching must be clear and free from obscurity (deceit) like a light shining in the darkness (2Cor.4:2-6). Jesus showed compassion for sinners, but taught them to repent and sin no more.

Update: Many Catholics are very puzzled why Pope Francis wants to clamp down on the Traditional Latin Mass because it is “divisive”. More and more Catholics are leaving the current new Mass for the the silence and reverence of the TLM.  (This is more of an indictment of the New Mass. You think increased reverence for the Eucharist would be a good thing!)

Acting on homosexual inclinations is opposed in the bible. Yet this activity is widely accepted in current society.

“Pope Francis is saying don’t make homosexuality an issue. Well, that is heresy and that will destroy families.” Mother Miriam

The Catechism states that homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered, yet Pope Francis only states that it is criminal to to condemn (criticize) these people. (Yet he fails to tell others to repent and stop this practice.)

Would this also be considered criminal if Jesus condemned (criticized) people with homosexual tendancies???

Many in our society are probably unaware that they will be ultimately judged by God for their morally disordered actions.

Several European Cardinals and bishops (and others) are seeking to promote the abolition of celibacy, woman priests, communion of the divorced, and the blessing of same-sex union (gay marriage).

We have prominent Catholic leaders who support abortion rights.

Priests are criticized for attending Trump rallies.

Priests are criticized or reassigned by their superiors for stating Church teachings.

Priests are criticized or reassigned by their superiors for reminding (criticizing them).

An Ontario Catholic high school student was suspended from school for saying the God created two genders. Evidently this has now become offensive to others!

St. Augustine quotes on sin:

“Love the sinner and hate the sin.”

“Sin is looking for the right thing in the wrong place.”

“Sin is believing the lie that you are self-created, self-dependent, and self-sustained.”

“But my sin was that I looked for pleasure, beauty, and truth not in Him but in myself and other creatures. And the search led me instead to pain, confusion, and error.”
