[Greek] κατακρίνω (katakrinō), [Latin] condemnare, [Latin] damnare, [Latin] iudicare, [French] declarer coupable, [French] obliger, [French] juger: to condemn, to give judgment, to judge down; 22 scriptural references

A major economic research paper reported that Vatican II triggered a decline in worldwide Catholic attendance. After having been condemned and repudiated, Archbishop Lefebvre’s past concerns and warnings about Vatican II have been vindicated.
Background information:
Greek Hellenism: This term means to sentence against, to pass sentence, to condemn, and to deem guilty.
Herodotus’ the Histories 2.133: “An oracle came to the king from city of Buto, announcing that he had just six years to live.”
Euripides’ Andromache 496: “And you, my child, how luckless you are, put to death because of your mother’s bed.”
Xenophon’s Hiero 7.10: “I tell you, Simonides, he lives day and night like one condemned by the judgment of all men to die for his wickedness.”
Old Testament: This term means to destroy, to divide, to exclude, to decide, and to cut off.
New Testament: This term means to condemn. For purposes of brevity, Jesus being condemned will be excluded.
Mk.16:16: “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned.”
Why could God condemn man for not believing in the gospel?
- God has a right to establish His own standards for mercy.
- Man has no automatic claim for entry into heaven.
- Man can reject the terms for salvation.
- Man can disregard and show contempt for the gospel.
- Man’s unbelief may show his love of sin.
- Man may have no love for God, for His laws, and for eternity.
Jn.8:11-12: “Then Jesus said to the adulterous woman, ‘Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?’ She replied, ‘No one, sir’. Then Jesus said, ‘Neither do I condemn you. Go and from now on do not sin any more.'”
- The scribes and Pharisees intended to trap Jesus in order to get Him in trouble with disregarding Moses’ law or Roman law in dealing with adulterous women.
- Jewish law required that a woman caught in adultery must be stoned to death. However, Jewish law required that 2 or 3 witnesses must be present to provide evidence.
- Roman law required that only a person can be put to death by a judge. If Jesus had answered that a woman must be stoned, Jesus would be violating the Roman law.
- Jesus completely saw through their intentions and stated that one without sin can be the first to throw the stone at her.
- Jesus’ writing on the ground with His finger, perhaps alluding to Ex.31:18, may also refer to writing the shameful scribes’ and Pharisees’ names on the ground.
- Jesus forgives the woman but tells her to SIN NO MORE. Jesus forgave sin but did not tolerate sinful behavior.
Rom.2:1: “You are without excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment. For by the standard by which you judge another you condemn yourself, since you the judge, do the very same things.” (The Jews now longer enjoy real moral supremacy over Gentiles. Gentiles stand on equal footing with Jews. The Jews cannot condemn the sins of Gentile without condemning themselves. The final judgment will be a review of performance, not privilege.)
1Cor.11:32: “But since we were are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.”
What is the cause for judgment? One who eats the bread and drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily.(Unworthily receiving the Eucharist)
What is the judgment? Illness, infirmity, and death that has been visited upon the community.
What is the discipline? Temporal suffering, God’s fatherly discipline, chastisement, and punishment. These measures are meant to rescue us from God’s condemnation.
Jas.5:9: “Do not complain, brothers, about one another, that you may not be judged. Behold, the Judge is standing before the gates. (One must not groan and grumble but have patience in bearing wrongs and sufferings. You and others will receive your due reward (compassion, mercy, judgement, or wrath.)
2Pet.2:6: “God condemned the cites of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction, reducing them to ashes, making them an example for the godless people of what is coming.” (False teachers will introduce destructive heresies and bring down swift destruction upon themselves and others. False teachers revile things, revel in deceits, and seduce unstable people.)
NBER Working paper: Vatican II, in 1962-1965, triggered a decline in worldwide Catholic attendance relative to that in other denominations.
- Throughout the Western world, Vatican II was the cause for the decline of Catholic Mass attendance.
- This decline was particularly acute in Catholic countries.
- Secularization influenced Catholics more than any other religion.
- Vatican II had a depressing influence on Catholic birth rates and vocations.
- 1965, the year ending Vatican II, marked the beginning of the collapse of the practice of Catholicism in France.
- Changes in the Mass, new questionable ecumenism, and changing fasting practices all contributed to this decline.
- Questioning of traditional Catholic teachings by disobedient bishops may have undermined the Catholic Church’s truth holding beliefs.
- Vatican II produced multiple ambiguous statements, changes in practices, removal of doctrinal prayers, and silence on key doctrine all gave the impression that the Catholic church changed its teachings.
What were the causes that lead to the problems and errors of Vatican II?
- Pope John XXIII held the naive idea that it was necessary to “bring in fresh air” (worldliness) so that the Church “can get with the times”.
- Pope Paul VI later stated that the “smoke of Satan” (confusion and upheaval against the Church) has entered into the Church. “Fresh air” and “smoke of Satan”: leading to many problems in the Church.
- It has also been alleged that the Pope Paul VI’s papal intermediary (and others) had a hidden agenda to progressively sabotage Vatican II’s intentions (to make it look more “Protestant”).
- The Modernist and progressive clergy, reflecting the permissive culture, resisted and disobeyed Church teachings: abortion, contraception, receiving the Eucharist on the tongue, altar rails. SEEKING FAVOR OF THE WORLD
- Liturgical changes in the Mass. Changing the focus on the Mass from a sacrifice (Traditional Latin Mass) to a meal (Novus Order Mass).
- Changing attitudes toward ecumenism: From “No salvation outside the Catholic Church to other ecclesial communities have elements of sanctification and truth.
- Other problems: poor catechesis, sexual abuse scandals, churches closing, financial scandals, loss of vocations, decreased belief in the Real Presence.
Quote by Archbishop Bugnini who was present at Vatican II:
“We must strip from our Catholic prayers and from the Catholic liturgy the Catholic liturgy everything which can be a shadow of a stumbling block for Protestants.” (Essentially, Archbishop Bugnini was seeking to make the Catholic liturgy more Protestant. Let that sink in.)
Etymology: The Greek verb katakrino means to judge (-krino) down (kata-). The Latin verb damnare means to pronounce judgement, to find guilty, and to oblige. The Latin verb condemnare means to find guilty. The Latin verb iudicare means to decide, to judge, and to sentence.
Quotes by Pope Pius X:
“The primary duty of charity does not lie in the toleration of false ideas.”
“I accept with sincere belief, the doctrine of faith as handed down from the apostles, always in the same sense and with the same interpretation.”
“Liberal Catholics are wolves in sheep’s clothing, You will be called clerical, retrograde, and intolerant. But pay no heed to the derision and the mockery of the wicked.” (And you wonder why traditional and conservative Catholics have been called “rigid.’)
“On Tradition, the Modernists wage unrelenting war.”
“Modernism is a synthesis of all heresies.”
Conclusion:
Crisis, criteria, damn, damnation, condemn, declare, culpable, adjudicate, oblige
Update: It is through our actions and inactions in not believing that we will be judged and/or condemned by God.
While the older generations of clergy continue to support Vatican II and Synodality, the younger priests and seminarians, more traditionally and conservative minded, support Tradition.
God will equally bestow judgment on both clergy and laity who engage in the homosexuality lifestyle, according to their station in life.
- Clergy: they will be judged more harshly if they did not clearly state Church teachings and/or if they engaged in this lifestyle. (They should have known better!)
- Laity: they will be also judged for engaging in this lifestyle.
Receiving the Eucharist unworthily: Vatican II is also culpable in being influenced by disobedient bishops and laity (SEEKING FAVOR WITH THE WORLD) who wanted:
- Receiving the Eucharist in the hand
- Removing altar rails
- Using “Extraordinary” Eucharist ministers (who now have become commonplace)
- These actions all have contributed to the laity’s decreased belief in the Real Presence and liturgical sacrileges (abuses)!
Ever since Vatican II, false teachers, influenced by “fresh air” and the “smoke of Satan” have infiltrated the Church and have introduced:
- Destructive heresies (Modernism, indifferentism and questionable ecumenism)
- Liturgical confusion and ambiguity (Vatican II and Synod of Synodalities)
- Novel human traditions and innovations (Synodality)
- Perverting of God’s mercy, tolerance, inclusion, “mercy above all else”, and false compassion (Fudicia Supplicans and Amoris Laetitita)
- These actions all have contributed to the undermining of the Church (which is Satan’s ultimate purpose).
- These false teachers will receive their appropriate judgment from God.
- “The devil is capable of confusing the most brilliant mind.” St. Padre Pio
Vatican’s “outreach” to the LGBT community: It seems that inclusion, tolerance, paying lip service to Church teachings against homosexuality, and bestowing blessings on “irregular couples” take precedence over Jesus’ command to “SIN NO MORE”. Synodality (lived experiences) taking precedence over Church teachings ===> Synodality has become an IDOL!
Synodality is seeking to make the Church more Protestant:
- Diminishing the distinctions between ordained persons and non-ordained persons
- Share clergy/laity decision making authority and doctrinal development (Letting the laity decide about doctrine…what could possibly ever go wrong with this???)
- Reconsidering and redefining vocations/rights of women in the Church. (Politicization and confusion about vocations and “rights”)
- Decentralizing Church authority at the local Church level
- Implementing Synodality at the local Church level
- SYNODALITY CONTINUING WHAT VATICAN II STARTED!
GREAT WARNING SIGNS OF THINGS TO COME WITH SYNODALITY: the German Church is further “renewing” and “reforming” itself into decline and heresy.
Quotes by Archbishop Lefebvre
“Tradition itself, in times of dogmatism and dogmatic revolution, is a revolutionary force which must be safeguarded.”
“Our future is our past [Tradition]” (He was quite prophetic is seeing that Tradition is TRUE REFORM and TRUE RENEWAL of the Church.)
