Water Into Wine: What the Miracle at Cana Teaches Us About Prayer ~ Fr. Perricone

This is Mary, our Mother, who intercedes for all of us.

Background information:

Greek Hellenism: This term means to meet with, to obtain an audience, to interview, to converse with, to appeal, to petition.

During the Old Testament era, the Queen, advocating for the people, makes a request to her son the king.

Old Testament: This term means to complain, to solicit, to petition, to pay, to meet, to approach someone with a request, to turn to God.

Queen Mother:

  1. The Queen Mother held an official position of power in the royal court.
  2. She shared in her son’s reign and served as an advocate for the people and counselor to her son.
  3. A throne was provided for the Queen Mother at the right hand of  the king. (1Kgs.2:19)
  4. Upon the Queen Mother’s entrance into the court, the king stood up and paid the Queen Mother homage. (1Kgs.2:19)
  5. The Queen Mother, advocating for Abishag the Shunamite, asks for a favor from her son. The king will not refuse her request. (1Kgs.2:20)

Old Testament prophecy leading to Mary:

  1. Eve, the proto-typical queen mother of the living, appears in the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3:15)
  2. The young woman, pregnant and about to bear a son, shall name Him Emmanuel (Isa.7:14)
  3. Mary will become the New Eve. Mary, full of grace, undoes what Eve did.
  4. Mary becomes the new Ark of the Covenant, containing Jesus the High Priest, the Bread of Life, and the Word of God.

New Testament: This term means to petition, to intercede, and to plead.

Acts 25:24: “Festus, procurator of Judea, said, ‘King Agrippa and all of you look at this man [Paul] about whom the whole Jewish population petitioned me, clamoring that he should live no longer.” (They accused Paul for turning his back against the Jewish people and for becoming a Christian. They wanted the Roman authorities to arrest and condemn Paul. However, Paul claimed his rights as a Roman citizen.)

Rom.8:27: “And the one [God the Father] who searched hearts knows what is the intention of the Holy Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will.” (The Holy Spirit comes to the aid of our weaknesses, without the need of deep emotions or eloquent words. The Holy Spirit knows our hearts.)

Being led by the Spirit of God (Rom.8:14-27):

  1. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
  2. If we are children and heirs of God, we also may suffer and be glorified with Christ.
  3. The sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared to the glory to be revealed.
  4. As we share in the penalty of corruption brought about by sin, so we shall share in the benefit of redemption and future glory.
  5. For in hope we are saved.
  6. The Spirit comes to aid of our weakness

Rom.11:2: “God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Do you not know what the scripture says about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?”

  1. This scripture links the Israelites’ refusal to accept Jesus with Elijah pleading to God about Israel’s disobedience toward God.
  2. Elijah points out to God about Israel’s idolatry, contempt against the worship of God, and the violent persecution of the faithful.
  3. God remains faithful to Israel.
  4. God provides a faithful remnant, chosen by grace, who have not knelt to Baal.

Mary as an intercessor:

  1. The Wedding at Cana (Jn.2:12): Mary acting as an intermediary, notices that the wine has run out and requests help from Jesus. Mary tells others to follow Jesus’ instructions.
  2. At the foot of the Cross (Jn.19:26-27): Jesus gives disciple (Church) His Mother. “Behold, your mother. Woman, behold your son.” Mary becomes our spiritual Mother.
  3. We can pray to Mary to intercede for us in our petitions to Jesus. Mary leads us to her Son.
  4. Marian apparitions: Mary warns us (the Church) through warnings and chastisements if we do not get our act together as a Church.
  5. Rosary: Mary leads believers to Jesus by contemplating on the pivotable events of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.

Mary as Co-Redemptrix: Mary participates in man’s redemption becoming the Mother of God. She will be the woman who crushes the head of the serpent

Mary as Mediatrix: Mary mediates our concerns and prayers to her Son. Mary leads us to her Son.

Why did the Vatican II document Mater Populi fidelis say about Mary? (very dubious and questionable attitudes toward Mary)

  1. It does NOT become helpful when the titles ‘Co-redemptrix’ and ‘Mediatrix’ require repeated explanations? What??? How about just teach and catechize the people about Mary!
  2. This document also seems to be MORE concerned about Protestants “concerns” about Mary. This is very questionable ecumenism!
  3. This document intentionally fails to celebrate and even minimizes the status of Mary in the Church. This sounds very un-Catholic!

Theotokos:

  1. This is a Greek title given to Mary.
  2. This term means “God-bearer” or Mother of God.
  3. Theotokos is predominately used in eastern Christianity.
  4. The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God is a feast day (holy day of obligation) celebrated by the Roman rite of the Catholic Church on January 1.

Conclusion:

Postulate, postulant, ambition, desire, desiring, derangement, derange, perturb, demand, reclaim, oration

Paul, as a Roman citizen, was entitled to be beheaded, an execution befitting to a Roman citizen. On the other hand, crucifixion was an execution befitting to non-Roman criminals.

Update Baal was worshipped as the god of weather, agriculture, fertility, sexual immorality, spiritual infidelity,

Spiritual harlotry (idolatry): having spiritual intercourse with idols and gods

Mary essentially becomes the first Christian (follower in Christ) by saying yes to the Holy Spirit.

It seems that the Vatican is more welcoming to the “woman” Archbishop of Canterbury than with the SSPX. One wonders if the Vatican will be on the verge of excommunicating the SSPX. Let that sink in!

Synodal immoral appropriation of the Holy Spirit: The Synod of Synodality leaders often using the “Holy Spirit of Surprises” as a means to ratify and rationalize their Synodal novelties into the Church. The Holy Spirit can only stand for Truth. This practice is misleading, deceitful and evil.

Rom.8:18: The sufferings of this present time are just a “drop in the bucket” compared to the salvation that awaits. This may provide some perspective and reassurance to those who currently struggle and suffer.

Many of us are now rightly criticizing the consequences of Vatican II and Synodality on the Church:

  1. God is providing a faithful remnant upholding traditional Catholic teachings in the midst of this confusion, problems, and heresy.
  2. The Holy Spirit is leading an organic movement back to Tradition and traditional practices.
  3. The younger generations (clergy and laity) favor Tradition and tradition practices.
  4. More and more Protestants are becoming Catholic. Many Protestants are now learning about the deep history of the Catholic Church.
  5. The TLM is thriving (where allowed). The NOM continues to have sparse attendance. Shocker!
  6. This organic movement toward Tradition CANNOT be stopped other than by the Church hierarchy implementing Traditiones Custodes.

Mary is considered to be at the right hand of Jesus in heaven as the Queen Mother (Queen of Heaven), sharing in His royal authority.

“The knot of Eve’s disobedience was loosed by the obedience of Mary; what the virgin Eve unbound by her unbelief, the Virgin Mary unbound by her faith.” St. Irenaeus

“When Jesus saw His mother and the disciple there, He said to His mother, ‘Woman, behold your son.’ Then He said to His disciple, ‘Behold your mother.'” Jn.19:26-27

This post was made as small token of my appreciation for Mary, the Mother of God.

Happy Mother’s Day!
