[Greek] μυκτηρίζω (myktērizō), [Latin] muccare, [Latin] inridere: to mock, to ridicule, to treat with contempt, to sneer at, to turn up one’s nose: Gal.6:7

If you do not accept, approve, or tolerate others’ behavior, you are often deemed intolerant, hateful, or extreme.
Background information:
Greek Hellenism: This term means to abhor, to treat contemptuously, to mock, to turn up one’s nose, and to suffer from nose bleeding.

The Aeropagus is a prominent rock formation where legal cases were decided by a council. At this place Paul would later appeal to the religiosity of the Athenians’ worship of an Unknown God.
Lysias’ Against Philon 24:14: “He comes to challenge the validity of my misfortune (nose bleed), and he is trying to persuade you (Aeropagus Council) that I am not the kind of person that all of you are seeing. You, however, ought to trust your own eyes rather than my opponent’s words.”
Old Testament: This term essentially means to mock, to despise, to hold in contempt, to belittle, to deceive, to ridicule, to laugh at, and to imitate a foreigner.
New Testament: This term means to to mock, to ridicule, to treat with contempt.
Scripture:
Gal.6:7: “Make no mistake: God is not mocked, for a person will reap only what he sows.” (God already knows who we are [our true character]. One will ultimately face consequences (be judged) for one’s actions in despising God.)
Do not be deceived: This serves as a warning against self-deception and the influence of false teachings. This warning is a call to discernment to remain steadfast in the truth of the Gospel.
God is not to be mocked: Mocking was a serious offense, often associated with rebellion and contempt. These efforts illustrate the futility of attempting to deceive or outwit God. God cannot be fooled or manipulated. Any attempt to undermine will ultimately fail.
What ever a person sows, he will reap in return: This indicates the moral law of sowing and reaping. This is a reminder of the justice of God, who ensures that actions, whether good or evil, will yield corresponding outcomes.
Related Greek term:
[Greek] ἐκμυκτηρίζω (ekmyktērizō), [Latin] deridere: to sneer at, to ridicule; Lk.16:14, Lk.23:35
Lk.16:14: “The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all these things and sneered at Jesus.” (Jesus accused the Pharisees for being untrustworthy regarding wealth [true and dishonest wealth]. Jesus states that no one can serve two masters (idols). One will either hate (despise) one or love [be devoted to] the other.)
Lk.23:35: The people stood by and watched; the rulers, meanwhile, sneered at Him and said, ‘He saved others, let Him save Himself if He is the chosen one, the Messiah of God.'” (These leaders (chief priests, scribes, elders, Pharisees) triumphantly deride Jesus as if they had conquered Him.)
Etymology: The Greek verb mukterizo literally means to turn up one’s nose. The Greek noun mukter means nose. The Latin verb inridere means to ridicule and to laugh at.
Conclusion:
Mock, mockery, deride, derision, ridicule, ridiculous
In Lysias’ Against Philon, this term was specifically used to mock and undermine a prosecutor’s legal arguments. These legal proceedings most likely occurred at the Aeropagus before a legal consul. Paul will later speak here, appealing to the Athenians’ religiosity in believing in an “Unknown God.”
Update: Yes, there are SO MANY examples of how God and many of us who are mocked.
Oftentimes we hear: “Those conservative ‘anti-choice’ Catholics and Christians are ‘extreme’. They are taking away the reproductive rights from many people.” (They cannot say “pro-life” because their opponents must not be seen as pro-life. Conservative and traditional Catholics and Christians get their beliefs and morals from God. According to their own reasoning: THEN GOD MUST BE EXTREME! This actually speaks more about the character of these ‘pro-choice’ advocates who are actually mocking God.)
In June 2023, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a “drag ‘queen” group of gay activists, showed a drag queen pole dance on the crucifix. The Los Angeles Dodgers’ organization honored this group. This group’s name is a mockery of nun’s orders. Bishop Strickland was the the clergy who showed up and protested. This is also a mockery of the other clergy.
Pope Leo warmly welcomes scandalous clergy and laity but refuses to meet with the SSPX. This is mockery of the Vatican.
St. Patrick’s Cathedral made the ill-advised decision to have a funeral function for a Transgender activist. This resulted in sacrilege, disrespect, derision, and chaos in the church. As a result, a Mass of Reparations was needed to cleanse the church.
The Modernist (Synodal) “outreach to the LGBTQ community:
- The Vatican is open to changing the Church’s teachings against homosexuality to accommodate the culture.
- Pope Leo continues to support Fr. James Martin’s LGBT outreach. (This just shows that Pope Leo is following the path of Pope Francis).
- Fr. Maurizio Chiodi, a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life, says, “we have to rethink teaching on homosexuality.”
The Vatican’s Fiducia Supplicans also mockingly offers “non-liturgical blessings” for sinful “irregular unions” This is blessing evil!
The Vatican’s Dignitas Infinita mockingly alludes to man having “infinite dignity”. Man does NOT have infinite dignity. This is something that the serpent would say to Adam and Eve: “You have infinite dignity. You can be like gods who know good and evil.” (Both confusing and misleading!)
A typical abortion supporter:” You are mad. You are not like us who believe in women’s ‘reproductive rights’.
Quotes by G.K. Chesterton
“We do not want a church that will move with the world. We want a church that will move the world.”
“Right is right even if nobody does it. Wrong is wrong even if everybody is wrong about it.”
